I've long been fascinated with what I've always referred to as achieving alchemy—or transforming the negative into a positive.
But how do you do it?
How do you take a total, complete disaster and turn it into something you can use?
"The Obstacle is The Way!"
I recently started reading Ryan Holiday's books like The Obstacle is the Way and binging his YouTube content. I never really had been interested in stoicism before.
But I didn't understand what it was!
Now, I realize this is in alignment with my beliefs—and how I manage to, as one of my bosses used to say, "Turn chicken sh*t into a chicken salad!"
No One Likes A Pity Partier
No one likes a victim. When life turns to crap, I find killing my pride to ask for help goes a lot farther than whining self-righteously about "poor me."
Because if you listen to Holiday, there's no "poor me!"
There's only opportunity!
Holiday Teaches How to Turn Trials Into Triumph Through Stoicism
Some of my favorite quotes of his:
"Whatever we face, we have a choice: Will we be blocked by obstacles, or will we advance through and over them?"
"Not 'be positive' but learn to be ceaselessly creative & opportunistic. Not: This is so bad. But: I can make this good."
"Today, most of our obstacles are internal, not external."
That last one though! My yoga teacher has been trying to teach me that for 14 months now! Maybe I'm starting to get it 😉
