Typeshare Privacy Policy

Please read the following to learn more about our Privacy Policy. By using or accessing the Services in any manner (“Typeshare”), including the Typeshare website, app, and the Typeshare Connector browser extension, you acknowledge that you accept the practices and policies outlined in this Privacy Policy, and you consent that we will collect, use, store, and share your information in the ways described below.

The privacy of your data, and it is your data, not ours, is a big deal to us. We’ll only ever access your account to help you with a problem or squash a software bug. We’ll never open any private content unless you ask us to.

What information we collect and why

Account information. When you sign up or log in with Google, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, or an email magic link, we collect the name, email address, profile photo, and account ID that provider shares with us, plus the access tokens we need to act on your behalf. We collect this to create and secure your account and to provide the services you connect.

Connected publishing accounts. When you connect a publishing account (X, LinkedIn, Substack, Notion, or others we add), we collect the credentials or tokens needed to publish, schedule, and read analytics for that account on your behalf, along with the content on that account that the feature you asked for needs (for example, your posts and their performance). We only collect this data to provide a service you’ve asked us to.

Content you create. We store the drafts, posts, notes, files, and other content you write or upload to Typeshare so we can save, format, publish, and analyze it for you.

Usage and technical information. Like most websites, we collect information about visitors through web server logs and error reporting, such as browser type, language preference, referring site, pages requested, IP address, and the date and time of each request. We collect this to understand how the service is used and to monitor and protect its security and stability.

Payment information. We don’t collect sensitive payment details such as credit card numbers. These are handled by Stripe, our payment processor.

The Typeshare Connector browser extension

The Typeshare Connector is a browser extension that connects publishing accounts you are already signed in to in your browser (currently Substack) to your Typeshare account. It has a single purpose and handles a narrow set of data.

What it collects. When, and only when, you press “Connect” inside Typeshare, the extension reads the browser cookies for the publishing site you are connecting (for example, substack.com), which include your authentication cookies for that site, together with your browser’s user-agent string. The extension does not read cookies from any other site, does not read your browsing history, does not read page content, and does not run when you are not connecting an account.

How it is used. The cookies are sent directly from the extension to Typeshare’s servers over HTTPS, tied to a one-time token that expires in five minutes. Typeshare uses them solely to verify that the account is yours and to publish and read analytics for that account when you ask us to. The cookies are never exposed to the web page, the URL, or any third party.

How it is stored. On our servers, the session cookies are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM before being saved, and they are only decrypted while performing an action you requested. The extension itself stores only non-sensitive status information on your device (which providers are connected, the account handle, and when the connection was made). It never stores cookies or credentials on your device.

How it is shared. Cookies collected by the extension are shared only with the publishing site they belong to, in order to act on your behalf there. They are never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with any other third party.

Retention and removal. You can disconnect a publishing account at any time from Typeshare’s channel settings, which deletes the stored session. Sessions are also deleted when they expire or when you delete your Typeshare account. Uninstalling the extension removes all data it stored on your device.

The extension contains no analytics, no tracking, and no remote code.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve Typeshare; to publish and analyze content on the accounts you connect; to generate drafts and suggestions with AI models when you ask for them; to respond to support requests; to process payments; to send transactional emails about your account; and to protect the security of the service. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

How we share your information

We share personal information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers. We use third-party processors to run Typeshare, and only to the extent necessary to provide the service. These are all of them today:
    • Hosting and infrastructure: Vercel (hosting, file storage, and page-view analytics) and Upstash (caching and rate limiting).
    • AI models: OpenAI, Anthropic, and models reached through OpenRouter (content generation, editing, and image previews, only for the content you ask us to work on). They process your content to return a result and do not train their models on it under our agreements.
    • Payments and billing: Stripe (payments and subscription management).
    • Email: Resend and Loops (account and transactional email).
    • Cancellation feedback: Slack (your cancellation reason and any details you share with our team).
    • Support and product analytics: Intercom (support chat), Mixpanel (how features are used), and Sentry (error reporting). These receive your account ID, email, and usage events, never your connected-account credentials.
    • Scheduling: Posthook (timers that trigger your scheduled publishes).
  • Platforms you connect. When you publish or read analytics through a connected account, the relevant content and credentials are sent to that platform: X, LinkedIn, Substack, Medium, Bluesky, Threads, or Notion. Your use of those platforms is governed by their own privacy policies.
  • Legal requirements. Typeshare won’t hand your data over to law enforcement unless a court order says we have to, and unless we’re legally prevented from it, we’ll always inform you when such requests are made.
  • Business transfers. If Typeshare is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

How we store and protect your information

All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted between your browser, the extension, and our servers. Stored credentials for connected accounts are encrypted at rest. Database backups are encrypted. Other data isn’t encrypted while it’s live in our database (since it needs to be ready to send to you when you need it), but we go to great lengths to secure your data at rest and restrict access to it.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you cancel your account, we’ll ensure that nothing is stored on our servers past 30 days. Anything you delete on your account while it’s active will also be purged within 30 days. Connected-account credentials are deleted as soon as you disconnect the account.

Your rights with respect to your information

You may have heard about the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) in Europe. GDPR gives people under its protection certain rights with respect to their personal information collected by us. Typeshare recognizes and will comply with GDPR and those rights, except as limited by applicable law. The rights under GDPR include:

  • Right of Access. This includes your right to access the personal information we gather about you, and your right to obtain information about the sharing, storage, security and processing of that information.
  • Right to Correction. This is your right to request correction of your personal information.
  • Right to Erasure. This is your right to request, subject to certain limitations under applicable law, that your personal information be erased from our possession (also known as the “Right to be forgotten”). If applicable law requires us to comply with your request to delete your information, fulfillment of your request may prevent you from using Typeshare and may result in closing your account.
  • Right to Complain. You have the right to make a complaint regarding our handling of your personal information with the appropriate supervisory authority.
  • Right to Restrict Processing. This is your right to request restriction of how and why your personal information is used or processed.
  • Right to Object. This is your right, in certain situations, to object to how or why your personal information is processed.
  • Right to Portability. This is your right to receive the personal information we have about you and the right to transmit it to another party.
  • Right to not be subject to Automated Decision-Making. This is your right to object and prevent any decision that could have a legal, or similarly significant, effect on you from being made solely based on automated processes. This right is limited, however, if the decision is necessary for performance of any contract between you and us, is allowed by applicable European law, or is based on your explicit consent.

Residents of California and other jurisdictions with similar laws have comparable rights. Many of these rights can be exercised by signing in and directly updating your account information. Children

Typeshare is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Location of site and data

Typeshare is operated in the United States. If you are located in the European Union or elsewhere outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be transferred to the United States. By using Typeshare, participating in any of our services and/or providing us with your information, you consent to this transfer.

Changes and questions

Typeshare may update this policy from time to time. We’ll notify you about significant changes by emailing the account owner or by placing a prominent notice on our site. You can access, change or delete your personal information at any time by contacting us at sam@typeshare.co.
