Speak simpler to build strong relationships and reach better outcomes
Becky Pierson

People want to have simple conversations human to human. Conversations like this build trust and rapport.

It doesn't matter how great the scale of the conversation or decisions are. Simplicity and clarity will always prove better communication.

Great communication drives great outcomes.

Misunderstandings lead to strained relationships.

When you use complex phrases or nomenclature, you end up on a different page. The greater the language gap, the more room for error and misunderstanding.

Every industry has buzzwords. Learn other ways to talk about your industry so that you can have conversations outside of it.

Big words = big egos.

Or at least that's how they are often perceived.

When you use big words, your audience automatically goes on the defensive. If they don't understand, they can feel threatened. Especially in a workplace setting where there is often pressure to perform.

No one likes to feel stupid or unintelligent. Avoid making people feel this way.

Focus on goals and outcomes.

When working with clients that don't understand what you do, it is important to revert back to basics. Ask simple questions.

What problem are we solving?

Where are we today?

How will we get to where we want to go?

The more simple our conversations and writing, the more clear the path forward will be. The best teams have outstanding communication. Outstanding, in this case, means simple and clear.

The teams with great communication have strong relationships. Those strong relationships lead to big wins.
