Essay #16: Why a Talking to a College Counselor Could Help you Out in the Long Run
Cecilia Valdes-Brito

When you first attend college, there are usually a group of people set aside to help you out with your college experience and they are known as college counselors. They can do many things such as help you pick classes, give you some advice, and guide you through your college life. Even Though you may think that going to a college counselor can be a little stressful for those who normally do not really enjoy talking to others, they can help you in alot of ways.

When I first entered the Miami-Dade Honors College I never realized how much help I needed to pick classes or even the right courses until I talked to a teacher about it. Before that I didn't even know that there were specific classes that I needed to take in a certain order to further go through my major. I know this may seem like it is not very special, but the major that I chose to study, which is interior design, is a very difficult one. This is mainly because of how many tedious design classes one has to take to get to where they are today.

When you meet with a counselor then you will be able to organize yourself better and even pick your classes with ease. I was even about to switch my major until my advisor assured me that interior design is a very interesting major to do and that I should focus on what I love, instead of doing something that is not even meant for me. That is why you should always try to talk to your counselor, just so that you can get the best college experience possible.
