Essay #18: Studying Abroad Can Be a Great Way to Open Your Eyes
Cecilia Valdes-Brito

As a highschool student transitioning into the college lifestyle, I immediately always thought about studying abroad with my future college. I knew that one day I would enjoy visiting a different country for such a long period of time because you get to see how different it is from the place that we call home. I never really thought about studying abroad at any point in my life because of how high travel costs are. The experience may be worth it, but the fact that it can be expensive for a student on budget is what made me think otherwise.

Even though this was the case, I have recently learned about ways to earn scholarships and save up money to study abroad in places such as Italy, Spain, and even in the Czech Republic. As a student a part of the Miami-Dade Honors College they sit us down in meetings every Thursday to discuss different things. One of these things included scholarships for students who cannot really afford it. I immediately became interested in studying abroad because I felt as if I could realistically be a part of it. I loved hearing everything about studying abroad and how it has changed many of the student’s lives that attended the program of study.

I learned so much information from that meeting so it did not seem like such a hard goal for me to reach as a college student on a budget. I feel as if sometimes it can be hard to access, but if you try your best you can achieve the things that you wish for. As a college student, I have learned that when you work hard for something you can reach any goal.
