This new series on Disney+ has already found lots of high praise, well deserved praise. Some that say Star Wars is going downhill may eat their words after they start watching Andor.

Leading up to today

During recent years, Star Wars has had definite ups and downs. While The Mandalorian and Rogue One were fantastic, others like The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi felt lackluster and disappointing.

From what I have seen, most Star Wars fans seem to hate the sequel trilogy. The Rise of Skywalker must have made many lose faith in the franchise as a whole. To this day, I have not lost faith, but I have started to.

Kenobi was a series that had so much potential. We had no idea about what happened to Kenobi between the third and fourth films, and the show explored that. The result was much less interesting as many had expected.

Something new had to come along, something better.

Looking up

After the initial release of Andor, I felt no real incentive to watch the series. It seemed intriguing, sure, but nothing from the trailers or ads truly grabbed my attention.

The factor that was able to pique my interest was word of mouth.

For the past two months, I have been hearing rave reviews for Andor. People say that it is better than The Mandalorian. Some have even said that the show is the best quality Star Wars content that we have had since Disney purchased Lucasfilm.

With all of these sources that I had heard from, I was able to take away that the writing in the series is superior to that of many Star Wars projects.

I have now watched only the first four episodes, but I can see where fans are coming from.

A different kind of Star Wars story

Andor is considered by the creators of the series to be a "spy thriller". While many of the films and other shows focus on big galactic wars between the Sith and the Jedi, this show takes a step back.

The story focuses on Cassian Andor, a man that was taken from his home at a young age and went on to fight wars. Cassian is now on the run for his recent crimes and has to decide how he wants to live: to keep running or to fight back.

Although a slow start, the characters and plot invest viewers after a few episodes. Some may not enjoy the series due to its pacing, but the pacing is what makes it in my opinion.

Should you watch?

I would answer with a definite yes, especially if you are a fan of Star Wars or just enjoy the franchise.

Lucasfilm may be getting their footing back, and I am more than happy to see it. I hope to see them focusing on Andor and The Mandalorian as much as they can in the future.

Andor is streaming now on Disney+.
