“Look after yourself” is horrible career advice.

- Don’t wait for the title.

Decide to lead and champion the culture you want.

- Don’t hoard your ideas.

Create stuff that makes your company better.

- Don’t go around others.

Create a rising tide that lifts others with you.

- Don’t try and prove yourself alone.

Get help from others to close your deals.

- Don’t make yourself irreplaceable.

Hire and coach people better than you.

- Don’t neglect your skills.

Put them to work to improve others.

And in doing so, you’ll make yourself indispensable.
