That's me! Is it you too?

All this dental work my cat and I have gotten was pre-planned. But the extra trip to the vet when the cat acted like he was dying was NOT! Neither were FOUR trips to the mechanic for my car...

Long story short, I have a new mechanic now.

Ryan Holiday's "Daily Stoic" Lands In My Inbox Today With A Vital Message

"When our stuff breaks or is lost...It’s suddenly a tragedy, or worse, a deliberate misdeed that has been wrongly inflicted upon us. I lost so much. But I really loved that toy. You ruined my favorite shirt. You meant to do that. We take it personally, because it is personal."

Today's Daily Stoic newsletter hit me right between the eyes because it's about detachment. It's the one thing I never seem to get good at despite so many years of practice!

Detachment Was New To Me In 2013, As Was Sobriety

There's this process you go through when you get sober.

You stop using, you meet a bunch of other sober people, and then one of them will inevitably point out that you're codependent. You need to learn to detach because you're nervous AF (and it's all your fault!)

This is true to some extent!

The Idea of Detachment Also Pops Up In Yoga & Buddhism

If sobriety, stoicism, Buddhism, and yoga keep trying to teach this to us, WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN?

When we will stop being so...human? And, stupid?

This is hanging on my wall:

"The root of all suffering is attachment."

That's Buddhism. It's logical and spiritual. But my emotional brain here on Earth continues to need this practice of detachment. I'll keep trying...
