I write the sustainable design process, tools, frameworks, inspiring products and noteworthy design professionals taking a big bite out of climate change.

The DOE’s Loan Programs Office (LPO) has released a series of beautiful posters in the style of the WPA meant to inspire the future of abundance we can built together through clean technologies. They have release three new posters in the series this week.

This work celebrates the new legislation that included the creation of the Income Recover Act (IRA). The posters showcase the technologies ready to scale at the speed of our energy needs. These are not far off laboratory experiments, but prime-time solutions that will play a central role in stopping climate change. These posters are meant to show the inspiring not so distant future we can have by deploying these solutions at scale.

The poster series heps draw attention to the critical sectors they are deploying loans. Monthly, the LPO office releases a report of their ongoing activities. Since September, the cumulative financing requested in the applications has risen from $92.6 billion to $104.5 billion. The three largest categories of interest are for advanced vehicles and components, advanced nuclear and biofuels.

The posters highlight:

  1. Advanced nuclear energy

  2. Bioenergy & biofuels

  3. Clean vehicle manufacturing

  4. Economic development

  5. Geothermal power

  6. Solar: concentrating solar power

  7. Solar: utility-scale photovoltaic solar

  8. Wind energy

I'd like to see them rank them based on industry need for impact, which would include highlighting:

  1. Carbon sequestering or green cement

  2. Carbon sequestering steel.

  3. Battery storage

  4. Seaweed for carbon sequestering and alternative natural plastic replacement

  5. Prefabricated net-zero building construction

  6. Net-zero internet via green hosting

What other technologies should they add to the set? Please suggest in the comments.
