I’ve been writing online for the last 2 years.
Since then, I’ve had pretty good results with it. I’ve worked with incredible clients like Ship 30 for 30, Gumroad, and Slow Growth. I also have a part-time job as a writer with a creator startup.
But I’ve stopped consistently writing for myself since getting paid for my writing.
Writing for the old version of me who needs my present self’s guidance—the one I wanted to write for in the first place.
Asking myself why, I’ve noticed the following thoughts come up:
You know the basics of writing. You should move on to a different challenge
You don’t need to be consistent with writing because you’re doing so many different things
You’ve gained some audience, and you get compliments here and there. That should be enough, right?
But the truth is, writing is the only activity where I feel my truest self, regardless of the outcome.
And those thoughts mean that my ego is getting in my way.
So to combat this, I’ve decided to adopt a new mindset around writing:
I’m a nobody on the Internet, and every day is day 1
My personal writing projects are equally if not even more, important
Even if I reach financial independence, writing will be a priority in my life
Writing for 30 days straight can be one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences you could do. It was for me.
