Advancing Technology is Making Depression Worse Pt. 2.
Mario Gutierrez

Amongst many things advancing technology has brought us one thing is clear: technology has granted an increase in comfort and lack of effort needed to be put into ordinary tasks. Average life in the United States is relatively luxurious compared to many other countries, where simple commodities such as food, water, and a safe comfortable shelter are easily accessible for the grand majority. New-age tech has also granted us extreme comforts such as constant artificial intelligence which makes things like driving a task that requires less input and removes many mundane things from work due to constantly advancing computers. People also have an almost bottomless pit of knowledge in their pockets every day. All of these technologies are being engineered in order to advance our productivity; removing required effort from previously normal things such as cleaning, to free up time to spend on more rewarding and profitable.

Although this advance has granted many people a chance at success, it also drives down those who do not seek it. The working class is diminishing due to many socioeconomic dilemmas, which has led to an increase in people belonging to the upper echelon but also in the poor. Technology has been a large problem for those suffering from mental health issues, predominantly in poor communities due to removing the effort that is needed to be put into normal daily tasks. This has driven many people into depression. The brain requires difficult tasks in order to feel accomplished; removing these tasks causes feelings of uselessness, lack of self-worth, and monotony. This is a large reason for the rise in mental health issues in America.
