Dwelling on Problems Will Make Depression Worse.
Mario Gutierrez

It has always been told to most that dwelling on things will only make them worse, but the question is why? The world is full of good and bad, and it is an individual's choice in order to focus on one. Since we were children we were most likely told by our parents that focusing on negative things will only make us think negatively and that is true because of how our brain works. Humans are very adaptive to what they are exposed to mentally especially children since their minds are still growing and changing shaping how they will view the world.

Dwelling on negative things such as past mistakes, and problems in the world, amongst many other problems, will only solidify the belief that the world is darker than it is, while simultaneously removing the focus from positive things. This can lead to a spiral downward leading to subconsciously adapting many negative traits found all over the darker side of life, eventually being implemented into daily life. This is an issue because it will retain overall happiness and feeling of fulfillment due to seeing many issues that you alone cannot change.

Another dilemma is dwelling on past personal failures. The issue with this mentality is that you embody your mistakes, and become a direct product of them, for the worse. You also beat yourself down mentally which deteriorates your self-value and self-worth. These issues can lead to more serious personal issues such as depression, anxiety, and paranoia, which can further worsen the case and jumpstart the development of mental illnesses.
