Day 12: Why Prioritizing Quality Time with Loved Ones is Self-Care
Melody Corredera

When you think of self-care, you may focus on the "self" aspect of the word. While self-care is about your personal growth and well-being, it does not mean you should exclude others from your self-care journey.

Spending time with your friends and family is important. It can even help improve depression by reducing self-isolation. Being surrounded by the people you care about and those that support you can bring great joy. By fostering personal connections and maintaining relationships, you can boost your mood, mental health, and emotional well-being.

The truth is people make us happy, it's human nature. We want to make friends and be cared about and receive love. We feel safe and secure when we're with loved ones. If we don't have healthy relationships, then we feel stressed and anxious. Losing meaningful relationships is a rough experience and even time may never heal the heartbreak. By making the effort to improve our relationships, we improve our communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.

The bonds we form with friends and family should be regarded as sacred. People who will be there for you through hard times and support you through life's challenges should never be taking for granted. Self-care is not just about ourselves, it's also about the people we care about and our relationships with them.
