Following are a few ways to take action and start a training or certification using your company's money.

The on-job training

Companies train their new hire for job-related skills. You can go beyond initial training and learn from your colleagues. This will also help build relationships.

In-house training programs

In-house training is one of the best ways to enhance your skills at no cost to you. You get to make connections with other employees during such training.

Vendor provided training

These are advanced training that you take from the outside vendors sponsored by your company.

As an example, I have taken Prosci Change Management, PMP (Project Management Professional), and Advance Leadership Challenge courses. Each of them cost several thousand dollars but because they were sponsored by my company, I paid nothing out of my pocket.

Further education

Many Companies support you to further study such as bachelor's and master's programs.

In my case, I did MBA and my company paid the entire cost of the program which was about $25,000.

By utilizing company-provided training and funds, you have to work extra hours and sacrifice your family time but the returns are extraordinary. You get learning, free training, and new connections, and whenever salary adjustments occur, your HR team may add additional points.

The on-job training is one of the best ways to enhance your skills and grow your career at no cost to you. You also get to make connections with other people during such training.
