3 Small (But Easily Fixable) Mistakes Beginner Copywriters Make when Writing their First Ad
Zeth

Writing successful Copy as a beginner isn't about being "the best.

It's actually far more about being reliable—and people being able to trust that you won't make little mistakes.

For anyone working in Copy, these are the 3 small (but easily fixable) mistakes I made as a new copywriters and why, if you can avoid these, your career as a copywriter will speed up:

Mistake #1: Not Knowing your Customer

This mistake crippled most of my progress.

Not doing enough research and understanding my ideal customer. Understanding their desires, their pain and speaking to those.

Take your time before you put pen to paper, do the research it'll save you time.

Mistake #2: Not doing the basics

Starting off, I wanted to jump into writing.

This mistake slowed down my progress as a beginner. Not reading and understanding why great copywriters wrote in a specific way.

To fix this, everyday I actively read copy, write a page of copy and come up with an idea.

Mistake #3: Writing Copy

This last mistake was trying to write Copy.

After doing all the research, I began writing. Rather than letting the research I just spent all my time on, write itself. The research is where the bulk of the writing happens.

I wanted to feel clever, instead use the research you've just uncovered.

Learn from my mistakes.

Take the time to do the research, practice the basics everyday, and apply the research. Avoiding these mistakes helped me grow as a Copywriter.
