A while ago, I decided to start building an online audience. But I didn't know where to start.
Previously, I've only written a few blog posts and one long-form article. The feedback on the latter was nice. But it took me so much time only to write a few words. And the negative feelings while doing that. The writing experience is an uphill battle. So I stopped.
Later, after listening to the advice of various writing teachers, I began using Twitter to interact with people within my niche, commented with value, shared some tweets myself, and eventually wrote various threads about my theory. The platform provides a smooth writing experience; therefore, I was able to breakout of my writer's block.
Here are the 3 important reasons why Twitter/X is the best platform to start building an audience online
1. Character Limit Breaks the Writer's Block
The problem with writing for most is the blank page. You're expected to write a least a few hundred words when you're not even sure where to start.
Twitter helps you avoid this problem by limiting the scope: 280 characters a tweet. Only a few sentences at a time. It's like texting a friend. That simple. As some research shows: creativity flows when we're given constraints.
And if you want to expound on your arguments, write a thread (multiple tweets strung together).
2. Simple UI Design Promotes the Culture of a True Social Networking Site
There's only two kinds of association with other people on Twitter: follow or be followed. And the algorithm would recommend what people wrote to their followers.
Anybody can write anything, or comment on anybody's tweet.
These simple and unique features contributes to Twitter becoming a true social networking site, where you can genuinely connect with other people.
3. Attracts Quick Feedback
Because of the simple features that encourages frequent writing output, and the social culture that connects people, you can get quick and frequent feedback for your writing. Feedback is crucial for skill development. Hence writing on Twitter would improve your writing skills fast.
