Building a calm, focused life as a dad, doctor, and digital storyteller | Sharing systems for parenting, health, and storytelling

Day 42: My Twitter Writing System: Inspired by Dickie Bush & Nicolas Cole
by Nishtar

Have You Heard of the Pyramid Parable?

A great Egyptian pharaoh promised his two young nephews lifelong riches if they could each build a pyramid as tribute to Egypt’s glory.

Azur began working on his pyramid right away, but Chuma disappeared.

He continued to stack stone upon stone and assumed that Chuma had given up.

Three years later, Chuma arrived with a machine he had made to build the pyramid.

Within a few short years, he completed the pyramid and received kingship from the pharaoh.

Meanwhile, Azur’s pyramid remained unfinished when he passed away a few years later.

The moral of the story is that investing time upfront in the right systems can yield outsized results.

I’m applying the same philosophy to building my brand on Twitter.

My Twitter Writing System

Step 1: Write 1 Atomic Essay Daily

  • Atomic essays are 250 words or less and capture one idea written for one person.

  • Nicolas Cole and Dickie Bush created this format for beginner writers to validate ideas.

  • For example, the main idea of this essay is to convey the importance of having a writing system when building a brand.

Step 2: Write 4 Tweets Daily

  • Growing on X (formerly Twitter) requires sharing your ideas efficiently.

  • Each tweet should be clear, concise, and communicate one idea.

  • Here’s one tweet I’m writing: “The quality of your writing relies on the quality of the content you’re consuming.”

Step 3: Write 1 Thread Weekly

  • Threads are long-form content that connect multiple ideas under one theme.

  • To amplify your growth, write high-impact threads that people will bookmark.

  • I’m currently writing my first thread about the nine principles of ultra learning, the ultimate meta-skill.

Step 4: Engage for 20 Minutes Daily

  • X is a social platform.

  • The more you socialize and engage others, the more you’ll grow.

  • Create a list of people in your niche, and comment on their posts regularly.

As you can see, the vast majority of my time is dedicated to writing.

I’m betting that 80% of my brand-building journey will rely on effective writing.

The remaining 20% will likely depend on SEO optimization and growth hacks. I’m playing the long game. Are you?
