Everyone and their mother seems to be running these days. I'm 30 next year, and you're either getting married, having kids, or running a marathon. As you can guess I'm the latter.
I hated going for runs or even going for "long walks at the beach" up until my mid-20s, just sitting there playing video games all day. Now every thing I do is cardo intensive; Thai boxing, marathons, diving, hiking. Not only has it benefited my physical, mental, and social health, but my sex life has never been better.
Here's 4 mindset frameworks to get you moving.
Mindset #1: Enhance your Daily Joys
This is how I started. I couldn't keep up with the boxing, so I started running so I can enjoy the training sessions more. Over time, I ended up being able to smash 3 hour sessions, go through fight camps, and even fight in the ring!
Start a sport, or any physical activity like hiking or swimming - you'll want to enjoy it more. Start small, go for walks.
Mindset #2: Community
Running by yourself is hard at first so I started running with my friends every week, or go join run clubs. You won't feel like you have to struggle to finish the route all my yourself. There are people faster than you, slower than you, and the same as you. You'll be motivated, pushed to keep going, and accompanied. You're not alone, everyone has the same thoughts.
Mindset #3: Achieving Goals
Sign up for races or sign up together with your community from Mindset#2. Now you have clear clarity for what you're running towards, how far you need to run and how fast you want to get there. You start celebrating each milestone; more distance, faster pace.
I'm now doing marathons to test how far I can go. Ultra marathons next?
Mindset #4: Look Better, Feel Better
I noticed that I started treating my body better, and changed to a healthier lifestyle. I'm no longer eating chips and sodas all day.
You care more about what you put into your body. You can only put out what put you in (Law of conservation of energy). You love how you look and love how you feel. You now have a confident and healthy view of life.
Use one if not all of these mindsets to get you off the couch.
Join the club, love the run. Let me know how you go!
