Statistically, not all can be in the top 1% - but those who are in the top 1% often believe others can be too.

They're not wrong.

But, the likelihood of that degree of success is slim.

A good comparison is how the average person views themselves as above average.

But by definition, 50% of people are below average.

It is a dangerous concept if taken to heart.

Because the awareness of this bias can beg the question: Why try when the likelihood of failure is so high?

This is the wrong way to look at things.

Instead, you should begin with the anticipation of failure.

Fail fast, fail often, and improve each time.

Managing your expectations maintains awareness of the deliberate process at each stage of your journey.
