Should you upgrade from to M2 Pro as iOS developer?

Do you need M2 Pro as iOS developer?

I'm currently using M1 Pro, which is a great development machine. Upgrading to M2 Pro would give me a bump in build speed, but it is unnecessary. Even M1 MacBook Air is powerful enough to work on any iOS development project.

M2 Pro Code compiling in Xcode is 25% faster compared with M1 Pro

The biggest project that I'm working on compiles about 60 seconds. Upgrading from M1 Pro to M2 Pro could save 10-15 seconds, but there are better problems

to solve, costing about $ 3,000.

But wait, maybe later this year, you would like to get M2 Max instead.

M2 Max doesn't help with Xcode compiling. That's just more graphic cores that could be used for video photo editing. But what about Augmented Reality? Here are strong rumors about the upcoming Augmented/Virtual Reality device release later this year.

I have yet to build any AR projects, but M2 Max could be a better choice to work with it.

So, do you need M2 Pro as an iOS developer? No, but I'm happy that I don't need to upgrade now to an M2 Pro machine, and I can wait to see if Apple will release AR/VR device and what hardware is necessary to build Apps for it.

I am still not sure if I will develop AR apps, but it can be the next gold rush as it was with iPhone App Store.
