The 3 pieces of self-development advice I wish I'd received earlier in my legal career for more happiness, wholeness and momentum.
Alexandra Slack

I have been working on self-development for over 15 years.

These are the 3 simple (but effective) concepts I've learned along the way which changed the way I relate to myself, my career and to others:

Advice #1: 'Be' as well as 'Do'

Previously, I'd focussed on doing, doing, doing. Actions, efficiency, progress. Self-development has taught me to focus on my 'being' just as much as my doing, and I've been calmer, happier and more fulfilled as a result.

Advice #2: Body is as important as Head

In the West, we live in a culture that prioritises information from the head (logic and rational thought) over that of the body (our feelings). Starting to notice when my body (a gut feeling, intuition perhaps) was telling me something has added a layer of wisdom to my thinking, and made me feel more whole.

Advice #3: Action comes before insight

Advice originating from your armchair is never as impactful as insights gleaned from taking action. Learning to operate just beyond my comfort zone led to more growth and meaningful change than comfortable inaction ever did. Build courage to take action. The rest follows.

Honestly, I wish someone had told me these 3 things earlier in my career.

But I'm at least glad I can pass them along to you.
