“Never put off till tomorrow what may be done the day after tomorrow just as well.” ― Mark Twain
No wonder it took Mark 7 years to complete his second novel.
It's simple: we are pleasure-seeking creatures. We want to do what's pleasurable now, and everything else tomorrow. If you are a procrastinator and in need of convincing, read the case against procrastination:
Tomorrow could be worse: you can't be sure that you'll be in a better mood tomorrow; or have more energy, more focus or more motivation. If you feel good enough today, don't rely on tomorrow.
Tragedy is just around corner: Illness, death, or other miseries happen. And they could happen tomorrow to you or to someone close to you. Wouldn't you rather have to deal with them with fewer things on your plate?
Things accumulate: life doesn't wait for your tasks to be done before throwing new responsibilities your way. Tomorrow you will have new urgent matters needing your attention.
It'll mess things up: life is complex beyond imagination. The tasks that you have for today, are meant for today. By changing the orders of things, you will invite chaos into your life.
You'll feel better once it's done: of all the regrets that you have in life, none is that you finished a task sooner rather than later. Experience the pleasure that comes from getting things done.
You will miss opportunities: people who notice your procrastination habits will see you as a less reliable person. Opportunities are always time-sensitive. Tomorrow may be too late.
It's your decision. But don't wait until tomorrow to decide!
