You Aren't Lazy, Just Unmotivated
Anthony Alonso

Have you ever been told that you are lazy by your family? Have you ever called yourself lazy because you chose to procrastinate on a project for school?

Well allow me to correct one belief for you. You aren't lazy.

A while ago I was speaking to my therapist and telling her about how I am lazy and not really good for much. She cut me off and told me that I am not lazy, I never was lazy, and there is no such thing. She explained to me that I was just not motivated to do the schoolwork I was given and therefore procrastinated.

Funnily enough, shortly after this, I was on the ball while working at my internship. I was motivated to work because it was something I enjoyed.

You may be laying in bed now, scrolling through social media or.. well... as you are doing now, reading this post. While doing this you might have an assignment due the following morning and this post serves as your way of procrastinating.

Keep in mind that you are not lazy for doing this, you just aren't motivated.

Why would you be?

Let's use high school for example, what exactly has high school done to motivate you? It is centered around the same method on how they taught factory workers to work in factories many decades ago, it's outdated. There are bells ringing on rigid schedules and no sort of creative outlet.

Once you get out you realize that there are things in life to be motivated about. High school really teaches us the wrong things and is due for an upgrade.

It's not your fault you weren't motivated to write your 13th paper on something you don't care about. So next time you say you're lazy, just remember you're really just not motivated to work on.
