“If you want to be a philosopher king first become a king then become a philosopher. Not first become a philosopher and then become a king. - Naval Ravikant
There is an epidemic of people jumping straight to becoming thought leaders without having earned the right to do so.
I'm not finger-wagging either. I've done it. If I could go back in time, I'd have done things a different way.
I started writing about self-improvement when my life sucked. Sure, I had worked on myself some before I started writing, but I really hadn't earned those words.
In a way, I did this kind of intellectual laundering where the act of writing about self-help consistently for years was an act of self-improvement itself, but still, it always felt off and now I know why.
The Route We All Lowkey Know We Should Take
All the top business content creators are the ones who don't need to make money from content - Gary Vee, Hormozi, Patrick Bett David, and the like.
They did the part most people don't want to do.
They became the king first.
Instead of jumping straight business mogul, they were first moguls in their own niches - Wine, Insurance, and Fitness.
Then, they took the knowledge from building a business and used it to teach business, which is why it resonates 100x better than people who create business content to make money.
Where does that leave me? I'm not sure.
I've been writing for eight years and I know how to write, so I'm going to focus on teaching that for a while, build a business from it, and report back.
When I speak, I will do my best to speak only what I know and practice in my own life -- no repurposing or repackaging.
Where does that leave you?
Just talk about what you actually know how to do, have actually been through, and can actually be of value to others.
Go build something first and report back to us later.
I don't know what that looks like, but creating business content from the jump ain't it.
