I love my beautiful old shoes, I bought them seven years ago. Their navy blue leather has faded to a light gray at the seams, they are wrinkled, and were resoled.
To me, these worn shoes feel like an old friend, we have molded to each other’s ways. So I have been considering if I should get them resoled again.
But my feet hurt these days, and I cannot walk as far as I like to - exploring new forests. The podiatrist told me that the base of my foot is overtaxed, perhaps my shoes are too loose (one of the reasons I like them), and I need new ones.
And this is how I ended up buying new shoes after seven years.
Our habits and default ways of working are like this too. Comfortable, well-worn, and molded to us, but sometimes they can hurt, prevent us from moving forward with ease.
They may have served us well, but they may be too old to carry us now and it may be time to let go and find new, creative ways of being.
Have you ever let go of an old habit?
