I took the MCAT multiple times because of my low score in the CARS section of the test. I can't seem to reach the score I needed to apply to medical schools. I was frustrated. But I did not give up and finally succeeded.
Don't question your abilities, question your strategies.
You run the risk of lowering your confidence if you don't heed this advice.
To do well in the CARS section, follow the following actionable advice.
#1. Spend majority of your time preparing for the CARS section.
The CARS section is arguably the most difficult part of the test and some schools only look at the CARS score when they assess your application.
Do at least one passage per day from the AAMC materials. You should also work on your summarizing skills by reading dense articles every day.
#2. Spend time studying the AAMC questions and the answer choices.
Just reading and summarizing the passages are not enough. You should also be familiar with how the questions are asked. Develop a feel for the correct answer choices. For this you should only use the AAMC practice materials.
#3. Practice eliminating the wrong answer choices.
The CARS section is notorious for its misleading answer choices. Watch out for the most attractive answer choices. Always choose the answer that answers the question stem and also resembles the main idea of the passage.
I could have avoided writing this test multiple times if I knew all of these from the beginning. Just do these every day religiously and you will succeed.
