This year marks 10 years since I began my career as a professional music teacher.

Along the way, I've learnt a few valuable lessons, just a few ๐Ÿ˜œ

Without thinking too much, I've listed off the top of my head, the 10 most helpful lessons I've learned during my life.

Some of these lessons are related to learning a musical instrument, and others have got nothing to do with music, but have forged my pathway to where I am now, so far.

1. Music is made up of 10% technique and 90% emotion and storytelling

2. Worry about what you can control, not what you can't control

3. We are all interconnected by our humanity. No matter who you are, we are all part of the same Earth and capable of love, respect, compassion and generosity

4. Live today like it is your last day, but go to sleep knowing you have a chance to do it all again tomorrow.

5. The most important song you play, is the one that reflects the most authentic version of yourself.

6. The moment music becomes academic, it loses its soul and is no longer music

7. The only person in control of your destiny, is yourself.

8. When it all comes to an end, I want my tombstone to say: "Loved by family, respected by colleagues, and admired by friends".

9. You always have a choice, and no matter what choice you make, learn to be okay with it regardless of whether you believe it was a good or bad choice.

10. Learn to forgive yourself for making mistakes, but be disciplined in trying to get better each day so you don't repeat the same mistakes.

What are some life lessons you've learnt in your life that has shaped your life whether it'd be in your professional career or personal life?
