Sharing Biblical Wisdom, Strong Men, and Wild Cards!

The Three Biblical Archetypes For Biblical Masculinity So That Men Can Flourish In Every Area Of Their Lives
By Bruce Colbert

The topic of manhood is chock full of theories. Here are the top three archetypes of manhood from the scriptures (I have seven total):

King

Calling men "kings" has become cliche.

But the ultimate commission from God is to rule: "..let them rule.." Man exercises this loving dominion both under God and in partnership with others. The result is fruitfulness and God's blessing.

Other key functions of this archetype are seeing and discerning the good and blessing with words.

Men should embrace the responsibility of stewarding all things in his sphere of influence, driven by love

Priest

A priest mediates between heaven and earth for the sake of God.

He gathers up the fruitfulness and offers it back to God as praise. In this gathering up, he is ordering all things to be blessed by God. Lest a king become too proud, he understands his kingship in light of his priesthood.

While a king looks around himself in order to steward, a priest looks back up and ensures it's all for God.

Men realize everything is spiritual.

Sage

Wisdom was a royal occupation.

Kings cultivated wisdom so that they knew how to discern between the good and the bad path. Kings also cultivated wisdom so that they can pass everything they had learned to the next generation. King Solomon is the prototype for the sage-king.

When a man cultivates wisdom, he does it for God, for himself, and for future generations that he might live the best version of the "good life."
