"If you were not limited by money or cost, what is the one thing you would purchase right now, to improve your self confidence?" Cat Wade
Cat Wade, founder of Blue Chip Performance recently proposed this question. Making me think deeply on what would my one purchase be in this moment. My initial response was I don't believe you can necessarily purchase confidence, as confidence comes from skin in the game and acceptance. Specifically, belief built from consistent preparation in combination with high quality self esteem of our mind and body. For a moment it stumped me, then I said millions invested in crypto and low cost index funds. This would give me the confidence in the fact that all basic needs that could be met from a financial standpoint, would be met.
The massive investment portfolio was a cheat to the question, so let the question sink in a little deeper. I came up with I would hire a jiujitsu coach for individual 1 on 1 coaching to double down on my current training and improve my craft. My second idea was I would enroll in the Write of Passage Course by David Perell to improve on writing in public.
Other answers from close friends included being coaches in stand up comedy, having their own personal fashion assistant, cultural experience through travel, speaking coach, investing in ones health, and owning a home.
Connecting with friends to hear their answers, thinking more deeply about my own, and as I write this it really forced me think backwards. Reverse engineering what confidence, specifically self-confidence is truly made up of. Especially with it being such a vital foundational quality in all of our lives. It is tough to build and develop something in oneself without realizing what the building blocks may be.
What does confidence mean to you? What are your first principles of confidence?
