3 Ways to Practice Being Present
Candas Ifama Barnes - The Wordsmith 🚢

We are constantly bombarded with things to capture our attention.

Our mobile phones are ubiquitous Depending on what notifications we have turned on we're constantly seeing, hearing and even feeling reminders of new messages, posts, videos, emails and other incoming items competing for our attention.

As someone who typically was an early adopter for technology, I have generally known the latest updates and new devices plus all the ways to take full advantage of them before most of my friends.

I'm happy to say I've shifted this pattern because I realized that I needed to take a break. I wanted to be more aware of what is going on in my life.

So I've identified 3 ways to practice being present which I'm finding to be very useful:

  • taking full advantage of the "do not disturb" feature on my phone

  • genuinely listening and paying close attention when I'm with someone and doing my best to listen more than I talk

  • noticing my surroundings; identifying what I can see, hear, smell or touch to ground myself and be drawn back to the present moment

Choosing to install these habits has given me more peace of mine, focus and clarity,

I can honestly say, I'm enjoying life more.

How do you practice presence? 💜🤟🏾7️⃣2️⃣
