A newsletter is one of the best ways to build your personal brand. But many don't even know where to begin (and so never do). 🦶Here are your first 5 steps:
🤓 Step #1: Who is my reader?
Writing to everyone means you will write to no one (I learnt this the hard way with my first newsletter in 2021 - RIP my dear digital friend)
So ask yourself - with the skills and expertise I have, WHO can I help?
🏆 Step #2: What is my value proposition?
You know who you can help, now ask yourself HOW you can help them?
What is your ‘before and after’? AKA…Where is your reader at before they subscribe? And where are they at 6 months later?
🪣 Step #3: What are my content buckets?
Now let's organise your expertise. List every topic you could possibly write about and then move them (like a Tetris master) into 3 main buckets. FYI mine are:
1. Ghostwriting
2. Personal Brand Newsletters
3. Living in the Mediterranean
💎 Step #4: What is my style?
Style helps bring credibility, professionalism and consistency to your personal brand, so your newsletter should follow suit.
Explore current newsletters out there and pick 3 things you like about how they styled them and 3 things you don't.
🗓️ Step #5: What is my cadence?
The most common cadence for newsletter sending is weekly. However other options are daily, biweekly, monthly.
First ask yourself - what is best for ME? What will allow me to be consistent for my 1st 6 months? How often can I actually commit to?
Voila! Your first 5 steps.
