I am using a simple 5-step writing process for my first book.
Here is the entire process:
Pick a topic you love and a group of people who care: First off, choose a topic that you're passionate and knowledgeable about. And make sure there's a group of people who are interested in it too! Don't write a book about the history of toothpicks if no one wants to read it.
Google the heck out of your topic and take notes: You'll want to gather as much information as possible on your chosen topic. So Google it like it's your job and take lots of notes. Just make sure to keep track of your sources so you don't accidentally plagiarize!
Make an outline that you'll actually use: Outlines can be super helpful, but don't stress about making them perfect. Just jot down the main sections and chapters of your book, and what you want to cover in each one. I am being more formal and taking my time here. No need to rush.
Write, revise, repeat: It's time to put your butt in the chair and start writing! Try to write in a style that's engaging and easy to read. And don't forget to revise and edit, because no one likes a book that's riddled with typos.
Publish and promote: Once your masterpiece is finished, it's time to publish it! You can go the traditional route and find a publisher, or self-publish like a boss. And once it's out in the world, promote it like crazy! Tell everyone you know, start a blog, and post on social media - get the word out and make that book a success!
Writing a non-fiction book is a big undertaking, but it can also be a lot of fun. I am embracing the process, not taking myself too seriously, and looking forward to having a finished product to introduce to the world.
