Back in 2014, I didn't feel like I was creative.
I certainly didn't feel like I could draw and when I saw sketchnotes online, I envied their creator's talents.
Fast forward eight years and while I'm still not as skilled at drawing as I wish, It doesn't hold me back from creating. If you feel that your lack of creativity or artistic talents are holding you back, these 3 tips just might help you.
They certainly helped me.
Start with one element
You don't have to go full sketchnotes from the start.
Try starting with one aspect of sketchnoting like adding the occasional icon in your margins, or experimenting with some different calligraphy in your headers.
Don't feel pressure to make sketchnotes the same as everyone else.
Practice drawing icons
The best way to improve your drawing is to draw a lot.
And one of the simplest ways is with a daily drawing prompt. The Sketchnote Army Slack has a daily drawing challenge that's perfect for practicing your drawing skills.
Best of all you can see other people's ideas and get inspired.
Focus on making not creating.
Creativity can feel intimidating so just try to make something.
You don't need to be as innovative as Van Gough when you start. You can being with direct copying, then experiment with a style and finally come up with something uniquely you.
Focus on making something, and more creativity will follow.
