Can you help fight chronic disease?
Health Twitter Must Unite (Thread)
There are huge disparities in health education across the United States.
West Virginia and Appalachia as a whole is a forgotten part of the country.
The areas that make up Appalachia have lower rates of educational achievement, income, and life expectancy.
While having the highest rates of soda consumption, obesity, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and cancers...
I spent Christmas on the West Virginia border where my wife grew up. I'm familiar with the people and place as I also attended University not far from it.
Although there are lower educational standards in Appalachia, the people that live there are not dumb by any measure.
Instead they are set up for failure when it comes to their health.
Despite having more hospitals per capita in the region compared to the greater US, they are statistically more likely to suffer from chronic disease...
Why is that?
It comes down to is ignorance of practical personal healthcare.
This disparity stems from a lack of formal education regarding health and nutrition...
Coupled with capitalist tendencies that disregard the human cost of life.
This lack of knowledge in the realm of personal health compounds as generation after generation is indoctrinated into the mountain dew culture.
Fathers are unknowingly setting their sons up for future diabetes because of the habits they are passing down to their sons.
We can sit here and blame the people, but if they don't know that they are hurting themselves and their children, who is to blame??
And can we change the path we're on?
The school systems?
Soda companies that over advertise to the region?
Power companies that pollute their water, soil, and air (that's a whole other thread)
Mountain Dew is heavily advertised, along with every other sugary drink/snack you can imagine... This is a stereotype for a reason
Why do you think they named it MOUNTAIN dew?
My father in law and brother in law wake up and drink a soda to start their days
They're both highly intelligent, but
That is their normal...
What we need is to spread health awareness as far as we can
Because Appalachia has been the guinea pig and the lack of health education is becoming standardized across the US schooling system...
Health classes are no longer required in public education
Gym classes have become a joke and will soon suffer the same fate...
We as a nation are only getting sicker
But we as individuals have the potential to turn the ship around.
So please take the time to share this reality with someone else.
Take the time to educate others about holistic health. It is our only chance!
Because this is a forgotten region that matters, more than we know.
So keep:
seed oil disrespecting
sharing natural cures
posting about grounding
pointing out the danger of sugar
creating cookbooks to fight IBS
Whatever it is you post about, keep posting
Do whatever you can do to help others live a happier, healthier lifestyle
Because the govt, big pharma, big food, and every other large scale corporation is pitted against us
They are taking advantage of people everyday but knowledge is our power!
and spread it we must!
