Many folks are transitioning to UX only because of the high salary.
As far as careers go, you really can't find a more fun, creative, and lucrative career.
AND this is causing a massive overflow of would-be junior designers into the industry.
It's why hundreds, if not thousands, of people will apply to the same junior position.
The problem is that many of these designers:
Aren't passionate about design
Don't truly care about the craft
Can't articulate why they got into UX beyond "high paying job"
Don't spend the time to continue growing
Look, I totally understand the motivation to move into a career that pays incredibly well.
I believe in getting paid what you're worth.
I believe that everyone deserves a living wage.
I also believe that it's far more important to pursue a career you enjoy versus one just for money.
If you're just coming to UX for the money, please look elsewhere.
This absolutely relates to the first point...
... there are so many people who just want to land a UX job and don't actually care about people's problems.
They believe that if they follow the checklist that was given to them by the bootcamp/university they went to, they'll be able to cash a large paycheck every month.
Empathy is a core trait of UX designers everywhere.
We have to be able to put ourselves in someone else's shoes and see the problem from their point of view.
Being able to truly empathize is what allows us to create amazing products that improve users' lives.
If you don't care about helping others, empathy won't be high on your list of personal characteristics.
So, again, if you're not interested in helping others, please consider another career.
