I've been making mistakes for years.
Here are 15 tried and true ways of making an absolutely breathtaking mess of your life.
Beliefs
Believe you're the smartest person in the room
Believe you don't have much to learn
Believe the world revolves around you
Money
Spend a lot and fail to save
Save a lot and fail to enjoy
Make a lot and blow it all on yourself
Relationships
Make them all about you
Assume your way is best
Only hang out with people who think exactly like you do
Assumptions
Assume the future won't surprise you
Assume that bad thing will never happen
Assume there's no need to prepare for the unexpected
Work
Focus entirely on your success and no one else's
Allow your boss to define your value
Allow your work to affect your happiness
And more...
Trust me, this is only the beginning:
Have a dream? Be content to just keep thinking about it
Have a bad habit? Be content to change it someday
Have a secret? Believe it'll never hurt anyone else
Have some friends? Take them for granted
Have a problem? Never ask for help
There are plenty more where that came from.
The point
Of all the mistakes I've made?
There's one that covers 99% of the rest.
Stop growing.
Assume you know it all
Assume you're good to go
Assume you've nailed it
Avoid that?
I'll bet you'll live a pretty rich life.
Failures and all.
