5 Simple Ways of Practicing Solitude in Your Day to Recharge Your Mind and Body
Denise Pyles

How do you practice solitude amid a busy day full of distractions?

The struggle is finding the quiet moments that help you return to a focused center. The struggle usually happens when you try too hard or push too much to find peace of mind.

Here's the secret - stop trying so hard and allow stillness to find you.

The solitude of stillness is less about doing and more about being.

For stillness to find you, stop running around for a moment, both physically and mentally, and just be. You don't have to overthink or overdo the effort. Your inner calm and readiness to listen will attract the stillness.

Take the time you need to arrive at your experience of solitude.

Here are 5 dead-simple ways of practicing solitude to recharge your mind and body.

  1. Quiet the distractions. If you commute to work by car, turn off your phone, music, and news while driving and breathe in the quiet.

  2. Silence the noise. If you commute by bus, train, or plane, wear noise-canceling headphones and listen to nature sounds or classical music to discover a place of stillness.

  3. Schedule a meeting for yourself. At the office, schedule a 15-minute meeting with yourself, sit in your chair, and breathe the stillness.

  4. Go solo. Take a walk in nature or park by yourself to help you focus.

  5. Sit still for a while. Sit on your porch or deck, or find a park bench to absorb the stillness of your surroundings.
