Self-help covers many areas, and sometimes we may be at a loss on where to begin when it comes to personal growth.
I have been reading a book-a-week on personal growth and development for the past six years, and this book taught me four valuable insights on self-improvement: Seth Godin's book, Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us.
Although the book focuses on opportunities for leadership and leading a tribe, I also gleaned a few insights from other areas of personal development from the author.
If you need a starting point for your work on self-improvement, pay attention to the wisdom of Seth Godin.
Belonging
We can't help it as human beings; we need to belong.
People want connection and growth.
Pay attention to where your desire for belonging is leading you.
Decide to belong and to lead.
Connect to Make an Impact
People also want to be part of something that matters.
Changing the status quo allows you to be remarkable.
You already have the skills you need to make a difference for others.
How are you inspiring others through your connections?
Fear, Failure, and Faith
Fear is the new "F" word.
People fear blame and criticism more than fear of failure.
Faith is critical to innovation, leads to hope, and helps us overcome fear.
Failure is not fatal; own your mistakes - the secret to growth.
Change
Growth comes from change.
The status quo is persistent and resistant; defending mediocrity is exhausting.
Change isn't made by asking permission but made by asking forgiveness. (Godin highlights one of my favorite life principles - It is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission).
Keep asking forgiveness and moving forward in growth.
