Most successful people share the same handful of things in common:
They make the most of their time with others
They know how to commit and complete one goal at a time
They know when to ask for help through mentoring, coaching, or therapy
They have a robust and persistent work ethic
They schedule their time for deep thinking and creative work.
But in spirituality, in particular, I have noticed that the most successful people have this 1 habit in common:
They embrace imperfection as a path toward growth.
And here's why:
There are lines of poetry or a song lyric that can carry you through life, empowering you to embrace vulnerability with open arms.
There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in. - Leonard Cohen
I am a recovering perfectionist, and I know this line from Leonard Cohen in the soul of my being. It is a tangible reminder to embrace vulnerability (imperfection) with self-love.
Here are nine reasons to cultivate the habit of embracing the vulnerability of imperfection as a path toward spiritual growth.
Reflect the Other Side of Light
Life is fragile, delicate, chaotic, fragmented, enlivening, joyous, and fleeting, all rolled up into one wild adventure. There is no such thing as a perfect world, relationship, or state of being. There are cracks – in everything.
No matter how hard you try to make your life the best life possible, there are fractures in your experiences. You are not perfect. No one is.
Living a life of significance means working with and through the fragments of vulnerability.
The other side of the cracked space is the venue for light.
The fractured fragments are how the light gets in and permeates every fiber of your being.
Let the Light In
Life happens – the good, the bad, the ugly, the empty, the redeemed, the forgiven, the remaining hurt, what is left undone, unfinished, shattered, frayed, bare, bruised, all of it.
Light nourishes, soothes, heals, restores, holds, and bathes you in possibility. Energy nurtures and makes a way through life.
Growth may begin in the dark, but life emerges through the cracks.
Let the light bring forth the in-breaking amazement of transformation within you.
