5 Strategies for Effective Post-Reading Reflection

Strategy 1: Journaling Reflections

  • Capture the ideas that are known before reading.

  • Take notes while reading.

  • Reflect and write what you understood after finishing reading.

Strategy 2: Peer Discussion

  • Discuss your understanding with your colleagues or peers.

  • Explain to others what you understood.

  • Ask them to add if they know something similar.

  • Make them ask questions on the topic.

Strategy 3: Mind Mapping

  • Create the visual mind maps.

  • Connect different parts of the text and present them in visual form.

Strategy 4: Summarization

  • Write the questions that are supposed to be answered through the text.

  • Make framework- like what is in the introduction, what is the methodology used, what are key ideas discussed, how content is presented, etc.

  • Highlight and write key arguments while reading.

  • Take all the above points together and write a summary in your own words.

Strategy 5: Application of Reading to Real-World Context

  • Apply the acquired knowledge from the reading to real-world circumstances or problems.

  • Suppose you understand about terms like exponential growth and compounding, connect them with real-life examples, of health, finance, habit building, etc.
