Ship 30 for 30 March cohort started today. These are 7 reminders to maintain and improve my writing habits.
We don't have time to write, we make time to write. Schedule your sacred hour and protect it to the best of your efforts.
In the first cohort, I ran out of ideas and turned to random paper notes I sketch every time I read or watch something interesting. Those are golden gems I now maintain in an idea capture system.
Now I have more ideas than time to elaborate on them.
Keep a distraction-free phone, this is my main productivity advice. Remember to take regular walks outside, the external environment is as important as the indoor environment.
Goals should be specific to constraint what we should do in our scheduled writing time. My 3 constraints:
Measure: 300 words/day.
Topics: writing, simplifying complex ideas, and visuals.
Time: 1h/day.
If you want to improve over time, what you write today has to be worse than what you'll write in the future. If it's not the case, you can only get worse…
Allow yourself to create junk.
Gather data about what is resonating. But focus on what you can control (shipping consistently and topic choice) and forget what you can't control (opinions, engagement).
A community of similar people provides accountability and feedback. This time I'm putting more effort to connect and interact with the Ship30 community.
