One Tool to Rule Them All

The A to Z of #AffinityPublisher continues with ...

R is for Ruler

Accurate placement of content is critical to add excellence to your design layouts.

Affinity Publisher has you covered in relation to this with Rulers. The main app Rulers can be enabled via the View > Show Rulers menu option. This places a horizontal ruler along the top edge of the Document View and another vertically on the left of the Document View.

The point where the two Rulers intersect is called the Spread Origin. The Spread Origin can be repositioned by either dragging it into a new position or using the Guides Manager.

Changing Ruler Units

The Rulers display positions using the default document units. Those units can easily be changed in one of three different ways:

  1. Using the File > Document Setup option from the menu

  2. With the Zoom tool selected one of nine different available Units can be selected from the drop-down list in the Context Toolbar

  3. Control clicking the point at which the Rulers intersect at the edge of the Document View displays a menu of all the available units

Get More Granular with Rulers

These Rulers are global to your entire document and are docked to the interface. There is another type of Ruler inside Affinity Publisher, the Text Frame Ruler.

Text Frame Rulers display a smaller Ruler along the top edge of Text Frames. This gives you access to a range of useful features immediately adjacent to where you need them most ... where the text is!
