Lazy Atomic Essayists: Have ChatGPT Tell You What to Write Based on Your Interests
By Ernie Hsiung

I devised a system that lets me play a passive role in coming up with good ideas for atomic essays while still having it so that I can sound relatively intelligent about whatever subject is given to me, keeping randomization to a minimum.

Pre-requisites: knowing why we would use the WHO/SO THAT framework and ChatGPT.

All you need are the following steps:

  1. Load up ChatGPT. Either the free or paid version is okay.

  2. Go to the "Custom Instructions" menu and personalize it with information about yourself. there are two text boxes, the first being "What would you like ChatGPT to know about you to provide better responses?" Go to town on this one. Here's mine.

  3. When ready, use this prompt:
Generate me a topic for writing my atomic essay, an audience demographic on who this essay is for and an outcome that the audience desires. Keep it 1-2 sentences max for each section" Regenerate until you see something that interests you.

Topic: "Navigating Imposter Syndrome in Tech"

Audience Demographic: Technologists who are early in their careers, particularly recent graduates and individuals who have completed technology bootcamps. [...]

Desired Outcome: The audience desires practical strategies and insights to overcome imposter syndrome and build confidence in their tech careers. [...]

From there, you can use the "Endless Idea Generation Machine" ChatGPT prompt with your given topic, WHO, and SUCH THAT, so you have 32 potential headlines to try to spark your imagination. I could have used this day 4, but it's day 30 of 31! Oh well.
