Continuing in the vein of my Atomic Essays from the past few days.
Here is a list of psychedelic cinema--from the Golden Age, one film per year; one film per director. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, these are not necessarily the best films of each year or even the trippiest.
View the list as a representative sample of films that in some way encapsulates an aspect of "groovy movies"--an aesthetic, the soundtrack, subject matter; director, or star. All films are American, and I challenged myself to find non-obvious examples, of what can commonly be called forgotten gems--in other words, films that didn't make much of an impact upon their release but deserve to be reevaluated and seen by anyone interested in the subgenre.
1960: Peeping Tom (Michael Powell)
1961: Victim (Basil Dearden)
1962: Dr. No (Terence Young)
1963: Billy Liar (John Schlesinger)

1965: Bunny Lake is Missing (Otto Preminger)
1966: Modesty Blaise (Joseph Losey)
1967: Bedazzled (Stanley Donen)
1968: Girl on a Motorcycle (Jack Cardiff)
1969: The Magic Christian (Joseph McGrath)

Like the list of foreign films I posted two days ago, and Hollywood films yesterday I will craft future essays with a deeper dive into each film.
