How to force an app to quit on your Mac

Your Mac's spinning beach ball is actually trying to tell you something.

Here’s how to Force Quit a hanging app on your Mac:

  • Click the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen.

  • Choose “Force Quit” from the drop-down menu.

  • Select the app that’s not responding in the “Force Quit Applications” window.

  • Click “Force Quit” to close the app immediately.

Or use a shortcut:

  • Press Command + Option + Escape.

  • Select the app and click “Force Quit.”

If all else fails:

  • Restart your Mac by holding the power button.

Don’t let unresponsive apps slow you down—take control!
