How Sam Parr (The Hustle Founder) Generates New Writing Ideas That Get Eyeballs Shockingly Fast and Easy
Geoffrey Vasquez

Staring at a blank page can feel intimidating, but coming up with new ideas is not impossible.

I tell all of my writing friends that, unlike delivering a speech that can be presented on a whim, writing requires clearer thinking. Coming up with new and interesting ideas consistently is a task for a bright thinker.

So, is it possible to become a better thinker?

I recently watched 2 interviews with Sam Parr that described his brainstorming and writing process that will make your idea generation 10X easier.

Before we get into coming up with new ideas, we must point out how important good headline generation is.

The headline is the most important piece of any writing

How do we come up with a good headline?

  • Spark curiosity

  • State a benefit

  • Envoke an emotion

Let's move on to coming up with new ideas that will help us come up with the headline.

Basic but effective strategies

  1. Search Trends - you can easily go to Google and search for new trends.

  2. The Heart - something you've been itching to write about. But there is a problem with writing about what's in your heart... People are intrinsically motivated and care more about themselves than they do about you.

  3. Inspiration from others - one of the best ways to come up with new ideas is to get inspiration from others. A top way to do this is by going on Reddit.com and looking at the top posts and then the top comments. This will allow you to come up with an idea that you can expand on.

One of the biggest takeaways I learned is that it's okay to "steal" from a lot of different content and make it your own.

Extra Credit Bonus Tip

If you really want to get good at writing.

I mean really really good.

You have to use this tip I'm about to share with you before you start any writing project.

This secret method will get your creative juices flowing.

You'll even adopt the writing style of your favorite creator.

Here is how you do it:

  • Grab a blank piece of paper with no lines on it

  • Handwrite and copy a piece of writing

  • For even more extra credit

  • Write in cursive

I hope you enjoyed this quick summary of 2 awesome podcasts from Sam Parr that can be found on ConvertKit's & David Perell's YouTube Channels.

Much Love,
