The Best Mapping Tools for Data Visualization

I recently dove into learning more about complex map-based data visualization and the best ways to go about it. I have already enjoyed making a few basic visuals with the programs I found.

The best two tools I currently use are:

• Excel 3D-Maps

• ArcGIS Pro

Both of these tools are incredibly powerful and can help you round out your data analytics toolbox. Excel 3D-Maps are more specific to data visualizations, while ArcGIS Pro handles pretty much any professional mapping need.

Most recently, I took a 2D vintage topographic map and made it 3D with the help of ArcGIS Pro.

I think of this software like Photoshop for maps and cartography. ArcGIS Pro also integrates with Power BI for complex data analysis.

I will be adding these two tools to the rest of my data analytics toolbox, which includes:

• Excel

• Python

• KNIME Power BI
