The Best Ways To Learn About US History For Adult Immigrants
Graeme Crawford

Local and National history is standard base knowledge, taught extensively in schools here. If you are too old to catch those lessons, here are some ways (that are more fun that school) to improve your knowledge of your adopted home:

Museums. There are museums everywhere. I'm particularly fortunate in the DC Metro area to have some of the nation's finest but most towns and cities have options that tell the history of their settlement, formation and key events that have impacted life there.

Travel. When it comes to understanding 'real America' there is no substitute for getting out there and seeing it. I've been to 37 states so far, each one has a unique feel and great pride and willingness to share its local history, food and traditions.

Hamilton The Musical. You don't have to listen to it 2,342 times and memorize all the words like me. Just a few plays through and you'll pick up the spirit of the foundation of the country, the names and roles of the key players in it and maybe even some important dates as well. (se-se-seventeen eighty one).

Follow these tips, have a ton of fun in the process and you'll be well-prepared for your citizenship test should you get to that stage!
