At some point, everyone struggles with rejection in their career.

Personally, I have for years.

I've been a pharmacist for 20+ years, and I've worked in several different types of healthcare settings. I had no reason to fear losing my job until one day - I was laid off. I had 4 kids under the age of 14 and a lot of bills.

Rejection after Rejection

Fast-forward 5 years, and we're living in a new city, in a new state.

A big city, with hundreds of places for pharmacists to work. But, there were also hundreds getting rejected from jobs! I applied to at least 20 jobs, and if I was lucky enough to get a response - it was "NO."

Then, the pandemic affected everyone.

When Opportunities Appear - Be Ready!

Suddenly, pharmacists were urgently needed to vaccinate nursing home residents.

My job was a temporary position for 3 months. After that, I applied everywhere, including jobs that had nothing to do with pharmacy or healthcare, but rejections continued.

But, now I was on a roll, and I didn't give up. I never thought that I could keep going, but I realized that I had momentum and I had to take advantage of some opportunities when they appeared.

I had 2 more short-term jobs in vaccination clinics, and I kept applying for the next one until I landed a longer contract, working from home, and paying double my salary!

What I Learned

I lost loved ones, including my father, during the last 2 years, and I know that many people have suffered unimaginably.

But, I got the chance to comfort mothers and fathers that weren't able to see their families. I learned that I could get up and back on my feet, and hustle when it mattered.

I'm not special - you can do it too.
