The objective here is to learn to make brief sprints toward decluttering in order to destroy the decision fatigue that holds you back from decluttering.

Master this on a small level.

Then, you'll be more likely to follow through on a big level.

Step 1: Tiny Housekeeping Tasks That Pack a Big Punch

You don't need to spend more than a minute on any of these. But if you do, you do. That just means you need to carve out 1 minute more often to slay these tasks:

  • Clean out the lint from your dryer. Motivation? You don't want a house fire.

  • Wipe down your computer keyboard & electronics. The by-product? You'll be inspired to clear off your desk a little.

  • Find 1 thing to throw away right now: a gnarly pet toy, something weird in your fridge, or a piece of paper clutter. You'll feel accomplished.

Do just one or all three.

Total time: 1-3 minutes.

Step 2: Clean Out Your Sock Drawer

I never did the Marie Kondo thing where you pull all the stuff out of the closet at once and throw it on your bed. Honestly—that would take me a whole day. I don't have a whole day.

So I do bite-size de-clutterings instead.

Today: the sock drawer. Pair up the ones that are still paired and chuck the rest. That's it!

Total time: 5-10 Minutes

Step 3: Get Rid of That Thing In Your Kitchen You Don't Need

You know what it is. It could be a cracked mug you were going to fix or a tool you never use. Release it.

Total time: 1 minute
